“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”- Helen Keller.
I will never pretend to know more about your life experiences than you do and I will not judge what has brought you to this moment in time to seek therapy services. I often tell my clients that you are the expert of your own life and my job as a therapist is to simply help you gain understanding and acceptance of your story and often times it can include learning ways to manage and cope with your symptoms/emotions.
I am an EMDR trained therapist and offer services for those who are seeking to heal from their symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. I have found that EMDR treatment has been the key to helping my clients from simply managing their symptoms and behaviors to actually healing them from their past traumas while building their resiliency to endure future hardships.
I specialize in working with parents and children with behavioral issues. As a professional I have extensive first hand experience working with parents to improve their child's challenging behavior. I have been trained in EMDR therapy with children with complex trauma, PCIT, and trauma focused CBT for children. As a parent myself I understand the difficulty it is to receive any feedback or adopt new ideas to parenting your child. That is why I work collaboratively with you on addressing the underlying issues that have resulted in your child's inappropriate behaviors and will identify ways for you to regain back a sense of control and peace within your family.
I have a Bachelor's degree from California State University of Fullerton (CSUF) in psychology with a minor in Human Service and I received my Master's degree from CSUF in Counseling. All of my internships and professional experiences has been working with children, adolescents, and parents. I have helped clients dealing with severe depression, anxiety, life transitions, substance use, grief & loss, self-esteem issues, and PTSD. I have done work with the Boys and Girls Club, Tustin Unified School District, Garden Grove School District, Blind Children's Learning Center, Western Youth Services, and I am currently at The Open Door Center for Integrative Healing. However, I would have to say my own personal journey and life experiences of being a 2nd generation immigrant, a daughter, sister, working mother, and wife has truly taught me the most and is the main reason I am able to genuinely connect with my clients.
I hope to offer you a space to allow you to show your struggles without judgement. I will help you identify the root cause of what brings you into therapy and with the use of EMDR I can help you heal in order for you to finally live the life you have imagined for yourself.
I understand that seeking therapy is not a natural choice for most people and that many people have reservations and doubts about the purpose and/or effectiveness therapy can be. My response to those who are questioning the process is: “Maybe it won’t work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever” (author unknown).
